As with Earth's diamonds, these tiny meteorite diamonds contain even tinier blobs of other minerals, which are generally what tell a diamond's most interesting stories. A planetary embryo large enough to host these diamonds within it could have been blasted apart in the first 10 million years of the churning formation of the Solar System.

The diamonds were discovered inside a small asteroid that slammed into the Nubian Desert in northeastern Sudan in 2008.

Was found after the explosion, the meteor was mainly composed of coarse-grained rocks (olivine and pyroxene), which could be formed in the mantle of "planet-Bud", and the concentration of carbon in them was unusually high. The fragments contained both rock and rough diamonds.

The study showed the diamonds must have formed at pressures above 20 gigapascals. At first, it was believed that the diamonds formed with the shock of colliding with another body.

They discovered chromite, phosphate and iron-nickel sulfide embedded in the diamond, with compositions and morphologies that could only have occurred under greater pressure than 20 gigapascals - almost 200,000 times that of sea level atmospheric pressure. Discovering that those diamonds may be from an ancient lost protoplanet that was destroyed in the early days of our solar system.

He said: "There are over 480 meteorites that are classified as ureilites". The diamonds are said to be evidence of the early worlds.

Fragments of a meteorite that fell to Earth about a decade ago provide compelling evidence of a lost planet that once roamed our solar system, according to a study published Tuesday.

While there are eight main planets orbiting the solar system, an global team of scientists believes that perhaps there could have been another planet that could have ceased to exist at the time when the planets and the solar system itself were chaotically forming. The space rock is classified as ureilite, a type of rare meteorite that has embedded within it several different types of minerals.

This incredible finding could help us figure out one of the most enduring questions of astronomy, that of the formation of planets.

Nor, the researchers said, could chemical vapour deposition have produced the crystal sizes - which leaves static high pressure. They could only have formed under incredible pressure - the equivalent of diving 600 kilometers into Earth's interior or attempting to hold up 100,000 tons with your bare hands. There you'll find the paper entitled "A large planetary body inferred from diamond inclusions in a ureilite meteorite" authored by Farhang Nabiei, James Badro, Teresa Dennenwaldt, Emad Oveisi, Marco Cantoni, Cécile Hébert, Ahmed El Goresy, Jean-Alix Barrat, and Philippe Gillet.
