44 pick, there were plenty of talented players left on the board, most notably Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson and LSU running back Derrius Guice. Guice was considered a first-round possibility for Detroit. He seemed arrogant, missed flights for meetings and generally - as Mike Mayock said - didn't "put his best foot forward" this offseason. One report said Guice got into an altercation during a visit with the Eagles, though he denied it. One example cited was Guice's Sirius XM radio appearance in March in which he said teams asked him during interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine about his sexual orientation and his mother's work habits, a claim for which the NFL failed to find evidence in a lengthy investigation that followed.

"It did surprise me because a lot of the things came out of nowhere and weren't true", Guice said on a conference call.

Guice is a first-round talent who slid to the second-round due to off-field concerns.

Guice's selection ultimately could be another draft-day steal for the franchise, which was gifted Jonathan Allen in last year's draft after the rookie defensive end surprisingly slipped to the mid-teens.

As a sophomore in 2016, Guice was a first-team All-SEC selection along with being named to Scout.com's All-America team, as he rushed for almost 1,400 yards with 15 touchdowns despite only starting six of his 12 outings. According to reports from NFL Network and ESPN, Guice later backtracked and told multiple teams in interviews that he was not actually asked those questions by any teams. But, we know where he ended up now, and it's not the end of the world. Six running backs had been taken ahead of him by that point, including three others from the SEC. We met with Derrius.

Guice ran for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016 and then had 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground in 2017.

This is the highest pick the Redskins have used on a running back since Ledell Betts in 2002. He was the seventh running back taken in this draft.
