Watch Jack Nicklaus' grandson hit a hole-in-one at the Masters Par 3 Contest

Grandson Of Jack Nicklaus Gets Stunning Hole In One On Eve Of Masters Tournament

GT (Gary Nicklaus Jr.) is just 15 years old and had never made an ace before the ninth hole on Wednesday.

Tom Watson took the honours this year, making him the oldest ever victor of the event, but his achievement was somewhat overshadowed by a pair of holes-in-one that took place during the course of the day.

It can be hard to keep track of the Masters accolades accrued by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. It sounds like the final hole at Amen Corner is going to get a little longer and at least one golfer says hallelujah.

"He's learning how to play golf and I think he learned pretty well here".

One of the great traditions in the Masters Par 3 Contest is players letting loved ones play a shot in front of the massive galleries.

Player, 82, took the first swing followed by the 78-year-old Nicklaus under a clear, sunny sky with the temperature in the 40s.

"To watch your grandson to that is special", said a still choked up Nicklaus said.

In an interview with broadcaster Jimmy Roberts, golf legend Jack Nicklaus recalled watching Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson play ping pong at the President's Cup.

But it was Englishman Fleetwood, 27, who looked set to win until two-time Masters victor Watson - 41 years his senior - pipped him to the title by shooting seven-under.

"I was just trying to hit a good shot", G.T. Nicklaus said.

"Isn't that encouraging for people who are playing the game?" said Player, a three-time Masters champion. Jack Nicklaus is as competitive as they come - and of course he'd love to sneak his drive past Player's - but we're not anxious about his launch angle.

He said: "What I did doesn't make any difference to me".

Tony Finau put a scare through the big crowd when he rolled his ankle while celebrating his own hole in one. What a day. I'm sure his father is up there in the trees and hasn't come down.
