Watch the Dow's wild day on the Big Board

26 April 2018, 12:42 | Gina Pena

Comcast rose 2.7 percent after the largest USA cable company confirmed its $31 billion bid for Sky on the heels of its better-than-expected earnings report. Dow member, Boeing, reported that the earnings and revenue can easily beat expectations.

Analysts linked the Dow's downturn to the 10-year Treasury yield rising past 3 percent Tuesday for the first time since 2014. The Dow finished up about 60 points, or 0.23, at 24,083, with Boeing's stock contributing about 96 points to the blue-chip average. The S&P 500 fell 1.9 percent, with consumer staples and technology sliding. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq closed down 1.7 percent, while the S&P 500 dropped 1.34 percent.

Alphabet shares fell 4.77 per cent, erasing the stock's year-to-date gains as rising expenses and shrinking margins overshadowed the company's better-than-expected profit.

The market finds itself in a more cautious stance heading into Wednesday's open, with all three leading indexes having been shut down by resistance at their 50-day moving averages.

The S&P 500 is down 34.21 points, or 1.3 percent.
