Afghan official says 12 killed in mosque bombing

At least 7 Indian engineers working in a power plant in Afghanistan were abducted by a suspected militant group from the northern province of Baghlan on Sunday.

The security officials in the province said efforts are underway by the Afghan forces and the government officials as well as the local tribal elders for the release of the Indian engineers.

Apart from the Indian nationals, one Afghan employee of the company was also abducted by the armed men from Bagh-e-Shamal village.

Television reports said local police officials had been told by the Taliban that the Indians were being held by the group.

Habib Shah Ansari, head of the health department in Khost, a mountainous region on the border with Pakistan, said 17 were confirmed dead from the blast with 34 injured.

No group has claimed any responsibility for today's deadly attack.

Medical aid group Medecins Sans Frontieres said it had donated emergency supplies to the Khost provincial hospital where numerous wounded were taken.

Raziq added that two other attackers were later shot and killed by police forces during a gun battle in which one policeman was also wounded. Abdullah Hsart, the provincial governor's spokesman, said the attack late on Saturday targeted Hazart Mohammad Rodwal, a district chief, who was among the wounded. The Taliban claimed the attack.
