TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has ann its plans to develop a blockchain-powered Android smartphone phone named Exodus.

Schematics of the phone shows it has a single camera, support for storage expansion, and nano-SIM support.

Exodus is being developed by a team lead by Vive creator Phil Chen, who is overseeing the cryptocurrency and blockchain initiatives at HTC.

The HTC Exodus will support underlying protocols, including Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and others.

Introduced and led by Phil Chen, a co-founder of HTC Vive, the Exodus is meant to be the "world's first phone dedicated to decentralized applications and security".

HTC has become the first major producer of smartphones to bring a product to market with dedicated blockchain encryption. According to Chen, the team is working to support the entire blockchain ecosystem and will, therefore, be announcing a whole slew of new partnerships in the coming months. "Together, we want to craft the best blockchain & decentralized application experiences to end consumers".

First reported by TheNextWeb, Chen will be transitioning into a new role at HTC to head up the project called "decentralized chief officer".

Other Chinese phone manufacturers have announced the development of similar blockchain powered devices soon to be available including Sugar which claims to be developing a phone that can mine Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Details, including price, are now scant. The company may also accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment for the phone, although pricing has yet to be decided.

HTC's newest phone, the HTC Exodus, is one you'll probably never see vying for shelf space alongside the Galaxy S9, LG G7 or iPhone X.
