Migrant Caravan Arrives At US Border, Despite Trump's Threats

They have not gotten any further because border patrol is detaining them.

His comments came shortly before a migrant caravan carrying asylum seekers arrived at the Mexico-California border from Central America.

Customs and Border Protection says it will resume processing when it has more space and resources. "We have reached capacity at the San Ysidro port of entry", US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Kevin McAleenan stated.

The Trump administration has been tracking the caravan since it started in Mexico on March 25 near the Guatemala border.

FACT: Many of these asylum seekers are escaping rampant violence, starvation or persecution in Central America. Most of those making a claim are usually kept in detention centers until their hearings take place - something that can take years.

On the U.S. side of the border, some people have volunteered to offer their homes to the migrants seeking asylum. President Trump has closely followed the migrants' progress, taking to Twitter to denounce the caravan.

Elin Orellana, a 23-year-old pregnant woman from El Salvador, said she is fleeing the MS-13 street gang, a favorite target of both Sessions and Trump due to their brutal killings committed in the United States.

Most stopped well short of the United States, but yesterday, nearly 200 arrived at the border near San Diego. She came to Tijuana to counsel the migrants on US law. They say the Trump administration also has created a false perception that asylum seekers are fraudsters and criminals and that asylum laws are "loopholes" that should be closed.

Klopp backs Gerrard for Rangers manager
Information from ESPN FC's Liverpool correspondent Glenn Price was used in this report. It was quite quick learning, and he did.

"If members of the "caravan" enter the country illegally, they will be referred for prosecution for illegal entry in accordance with existing law", Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a statement.

"We are a very welcoming country but just like your own house, we expect everyone to enter through our front door, and answer questions honestly", he said in a statement.

But once the migrants, many of them women carrying small children in their arms, reached the San Ysidro port, the caravan appeared to collide head-on with the Trump administration. Critics of the caravan contend that most migrants are driven not by a need for asylum but a desire to find better jobs and lives in the United States.

US President Donald Trump says these families are putting the United States in peril. And worldwide law requires countries to hear asylum seekers' requests.

MYTH: These migrants are trying to enter the United States illegally.

Why would a caravan of migrants spend a month trekking across several countries, battling hunger, filth and illness, when their chances of getting USA asylum are so slim?

"Guatemalans have a history of emigrating legally and illegally to Mexico, the United States and Canada because of a lack of economic opportunity, political instability, and natural disasters".

As per reports the Catch and Release policy officially ended in 2006 under President George W. Bush and United States Department of Homeland Security though certain critics had mentioned that it is still followed as part of various USA policies.
